7 DAY MCKINLEY A REALITY!

On behalf of the entire Student Life Committee, Joseph Danavi
and I would like to express our intentions to dedicate this
semester's work solely to the transformation of McKinley as
a seven day clinical service. We have met with Dr. Palinkas
and the McKinley Student Advisory Committee several times
after initiating this idea because we believe a 7-day
clinical service will not only contribute to campus safety
and accessibility, but lower health costs of those students
who are forced to visit a hospital on the weekends. In
addition, a 7-day clinical service supports President
White's intentions to make the University of Illinois a
profound university with full services, pushing U of I into the
competitive Top 10 bracket. The SLC will work tirelessly to
make this 7-day clinical service dream a reality, and asks
for the support of the entire Illinois Student Senate.

Thanks,

Katie Hamilton and Joseph V. Danavi

Right now we're waiting to hear back from the head of McKinley to find out how much more it would cost.

I was told that opening it up on saturdays increased costs by 2 million a year.

The first proposal we were given was a 10 dollar fee increase, which is a relatively small increase compared to the increase in services b/c I think the fee is over 180 for McKinley already. If this was 10 dollars per semester it would raise around $800,000 which might not be enough.

Im not willing to see student fees increased much over $10.00 per semester to see this happen, but hopefully we'll hear back from McKinley and it'll be possible to open Sundays for under 800K per year.

If a student gets hurt on a weekend it can be a huge expense to go to Carle. Also, there are implications for emergency contraception.

I mentioned this proposal to the Chancellor and he seemed at least reasonably supportive, but he was concerned that even $10.00 semester seemed too high.

Why is it with all sorts of free, modern birth control given out by McKinley do we have to run around promoting keeping McKinley open 7 days a week for Emergency Contraception? (The following phrase rings true: Failure to plan on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on my part.)

Why can't we just say, "The student’s would appreciate having the McKinley Health Center open 7 days a week, so McKinley can serve the student body." Do we really need to drag the very touchy personal and religious subject of contraceptives, abortificants, et cetera into this discussion?

Anyways, I support having McKinley open to all students, for all reasons on Sunday. Germs do not rest on Sunday; neither should our campus health center.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Nugent
Senator, ACES

Dan Nugent,

By advocating your position, you are tacitly supporting rape on campus. Shame on you.

Can everyone please be a bit nicer to Dan? We are all on the same team here. He wants McKinley open 7 days a week too.

Screw Dan...I don't know who he is or what his viewpoints really are...but screw him!! I'm outraged that his name is Dan. What kinda dude is named Dan. Even worse his last name is Nugent. Sounds like a candy bar. Do we have some sort of candy bar-ish senator? Screw him!!

Sincerely,

Can we first check to make sure that Dan doesn't have Emergency Contraception (EC) and Birth Control (BC) confused before jumping on him? Thanks.

By the way, wouldn't rape constitute one of those emergencies you're supposed to go to the ER about rather than sit on Dial-a-Nurse? (I ask this honestly, I'm not familiar with where one should go after being raped.)

Squire - often after being raped girls dont really feel up to the trip to the ER. An invasive rape kit could very well be the last thing someone wants to face.

Often it goes unreported but people still want EC just incase.

Squire - who are you?
